The Army Peace Operations Training School (APOTS) has commenced Joint Mission Leadership Training (MLT) for Key Appointment Holders of the United Nations Interim Security Force for Abyei (UNISFA), Ghana Battalion 5 (GHANBATT 5); UNISFA Ghana Medical 5 (GHANMED 5); and the ECOWAS Mission in the Gambia, Ghana Company 10 (ECOMIG COY 10), on Monday 26 January 2026, at the Battle Training Camp, Bundase.
The training aims to enhance participants’ understanding of the UN Military Decision-Making Process, equip them with skills for Peace Support Operations, and deepen their understanding of UN leaders and their impact in their roles as Mission Commanders.
In his opening address, the Commander of APOTS, Colonel (Col) Reuben Dela Klutse, stated that pre-deployment training is essential to prepare troops adequately for Peace Support Operations. He added that the training is structured into two phases: 3 weeks of MLT for key appointment holders, followed by 6 weeks of Military Skills Valuation Training.
He emphasised discipline as the foundation of military professionalism, urging participants to obey instructions, be punctual, take care of their equipment, and perform their roles as integral members of their units. He noted that each theatre has a distinct mandate that demands strict force protection, situational awareness, and leadership at all levels.
