CDS Pays Maiden Visit to 4 Garrison

The Chief of the Defence Staff (CDS), Lieutenant General William Agyapong, has paid an operational visit to personnel of the 4 Garrison on Monday, 21 July 2025. The visit took place at Idris and Uaddara Barracks, offering the CDS an opportunity to assess the conditions and challenges facing troops stationed there. Addressing all ranks at the OB Akwa Auditorium, Lt Gen Agyapong encouraged personnel to remain committed to their duties, stressing that their individual and collective efforts are key to achieving the mission of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF). He expressed concern over ongoing logistical constraints, particularly inadequate accommodation, and assured troops that the Military High Command is actively working to resolve them. He reminded personnel to prioritize their safety during deployments and to strictly adhere to rules of engagement. He emphasized the importance of professionalism and discipline, warning against unauthorized assignments, especially the practice of providing guard duties to individuals not entitled to military protection. He noted that such misconduct would attract severe sanctions. On the issue of training, the CDS announced the reintroduction of basic training and inter-unit competitions. He tasked commanders at all levels to ensure their troops maintain peak physical fitness in preparation for operational demands. Lt Gen Agyapong also commended personnel deployed to Bawku for their role in maintaining peace and stability in the region. He urged all troops to stay clear of recruitment fraud and to be mindful of their conduct on social media. He reminded them that the Ghana Armed Forces has clear regulations governing the use of digital platforms. The visit forms part of the CDS’ commitment to staying engaged with troops on the ground and ensuring that operational effectiveness is matched by adequate welfare and discipline across all units. As part of the visit, the CDS presented a 30 seater bus to the Command and also used the opportunity to tour the Afare Military Hospital and some project sites at Idris Barracks.
