The Director of Peacekeeping Operations at the Army Headquarters, Colonel Ernest Nanbigni, has engaged troops preparing for deployment on peacekeeping missions, at the Army Peace Operations Training School in Bundase, on Thursday 19 March 2026.
The interaction is part of efforts to ensure that personnel are adequately prepared and aligned with operational requirements before deployment.
Colonel Nanbigni emphasised that pre-deployment training is mandatory for all troops selected for peacekeeping duties. He explained that while soldiers have already undergone basic military, or “Green,” training, the current exercise provides the required “Blue” training, which aligns their skills with United Nations standards and operational mandates. He cautioned that any personnel who fails to participate in the training programme fully will not be deployed.
Touching on fitness requirements, the Director highlighted the importance of Basic Fitness Test. He noted that standards will be strictly enforced, and urged troops to take the test seriously, explaining that failure to meet the required benchmarks could result in disqualification from deployment.
He further advised troops to maintain discipline and professionalism both during training and while on mission. He emphasised that personnel represent Ghana on the international stage and must conduct themselves accordingly, as any misconduct could lead to repatriation, disciplinary action, or bans from future peacekeeping assignments.
Colonel Nanbigni also reminded the troops of the complex and often dangerous nature of modern peacekeeping operations, urging them to remain mentally alert and physically fit. He encouraged them to take the training seriously, comply with all regulations, and uphold high standards of integrity to ensure successful missions.
