The Ambassador of the Kingdom of Norway to the Republic of Ghana, His Excellency Dr John Mikal Kvistad, has paid a familiarisation visit to the Army Peace Operations Training School (APOTS) at the Battle Training Camp, Bundase, as part of efforts to deepen understanding of the school’s training mandate and strengthen bilateral cooperation in peace support operations.
The visit, which took place on Wednesday, 6 May 2026, provided the Ambassador and his delegation with first-hand insight into the role APOTS plays in preparing military personnel for deployment in complex operational environments.
The Commandant, APOTS, Colonel Ruben Dela Klutse, briefed the delegation on the school’s mission, training programmes and contribution to national and international peacekeeping efforts. He explained that APOTS remains a key institution within the Ghana Armed Forces, equipping personnel with the knowledge and practical skills required for peace operations in line with international standards.
In his remarks, H.E. Dr Kvistad noted the importance of understanding the work of institutions such as APOTS in the context of international peace and security. Stating that Norway and Ghana, has contributed troops to United Nations operations over the years and recalled the historic ties between Norwegian and Ghanaian personnel who served together in UNIFIL in Southern Lebanon. He described the shared experience as a lasting bond between the two countries and praised the enduring spirit of comradeship that continues to fortify their relations.
The delegation was subsequently taken on a tour of the school’s training facilities, where they observed the practical methods used to prepare personnel for modern peace operations. The tour offered them the opportunity to appreciate the standards, discipline and instructional approaches that characterise training at APOTS.
The visit further reaffirmed the strong bilateral ties between Ghana and Norway, particularly in the areas of defence cooperation, peacekeeping and professional military training.
