The United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) Ghana Battalion (GHANBATT) 13 has been honoured with the United Nations Peace Medal on Thursday, 7 May 2026, at the Battalion Headquarters in Bentiu. The colourful ceremony recognised and honoured personnel of GHANBATT 13 for their unwavering commitment and diligent service in maintaining peace in South Sudan.

The ceremony brought together several dignitaries, including a 7-member high-level delegation from Ghana, led by the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Vice Marshal Eric Agyen – Frempong, the Head of the Field Office, Unity State, Mr Sam Muhumure, and the Force Commander (FC) of UNMISS, Major General Junhui Wu, who served as the Reviewing Officer.

The Reviewing Officer, in his address, commended GHANBATT 13 for the high level of professionalism demonstrated throughout their tour of duty. He again applauded the Civil-Military Cooperation and the Engagement team for their unwavering commitment to activities with local communities, which have contributed to building trust and reinforcing the mission's credibility.

The FC also appreciated the Government of Ghana and the Ghana Armed Forces for their contribution to United Nations Peacekeeping and for the consistent deployment of capable and disciplined personnel, reflecting a strong national commitment to foreign policies in support of international peace and security.

He further expressed his gratitude to the Commanding Officer of GHANBATT 13, Lieutenant Colonel Edmund Tekpetey, for his leadership and direction, which have contributed to the battalion's outstanding performance.
