COAS Pays Maiden Visit to 4 Garrison

The Chief of the Army Staff (COAS), Major General Lawrence Kwaku Gbetanu, has undertaken an operational visit to units under 4 Garrison from Thursday, 19 June to Friday, 20 June 2025. The purpose of the visit was to gain firsthand insight into the operational, administrative, and logistical matters pertaining to the units.The visit began at the Headquarters of Central Command, where the COAS was honoured with a Guard of Honour. He received comprehensive briefings on Central Command, the 4 Infantry Battalion (4BN), and the 87 Signal Regiment. He also toured detachments as well as the Obuasi Forward Operating Base.During an all-ranks durbar held at the OB Akwa Auditorium, Major General Gbetanu assured troops that the Ministry of Defence and the Military High Command are actively working to retool the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) to address challenges such as accommodation and equipment shortages. He urged personnel to remain loyal to the Constitution of the Republic of Ghana.Outlining his vision for the Ghana Army, the COAS stated that he seeks a motivated force anchored in core military values and enhanced by adaptive technologies and modern platforms capable of projecting decisive land power. As part of this vision, he announced the reintroduction of various military training activities and competitions.He emphasized that exercises such as STARLITE STRETCH, TIGER’S PATH, THUNDER BOLT, FIRE BLAST, route marches, and drill competitions would be reinstated. He highlighted the importance of these activities in promoting unit cohesion and esprit de corps.The COAS also cautioned personnel against engaging in illegal operations, stressing that such activities tarnish the image of the Ghana Armed Forces. He reiterated that the GAF has zero tolerance for misconduct and abuse of civilians.
