COAS Pays Visit to 17 Army Signals Brigade

The Chief of the Army staff (COAS), Major General (Maj Gen) Lawrence Kwaku Gbetanu, paid a visit to the 17 Army Signals Brigade in Burma Camp on Thursday, 3 July 2025.The visit formed part of his maiden tour of Units under his command to familiarize himself with their operational activities and interact with troops. COAS was received with a colourful Quarter Guard from personnel of the Brigade after which he was given a thorough briefing by the Acting Commander, 17 Army Signals Brigade, Colonel Abass Mustapha.

The COAS inspected the Drone laboratory, image processing laboratory, Command Post and other key installations of the Brigade. COAS as part of his visit, held a durbar with all troops where he interacted with them. In his remarks, he emphasized his vision, which is to maintain a motivated Army grounded on core military values, enabled by adaptive technologies and platforms, capable of projecting decisive land power as part of the Ghana Armed Forces. He charged personnel to remain loyal to the service and uphold professional standards in all their operations.

He again stressed the relevance of maintaining physical fitness among personnel as well as reinstating traditional exercises such as Exercises TIGER’S PATH, THUNDER BOLT, FIRE BLAST and  Drill Competitions. He indicated that these activities are expected to foster unity and improve cohesion and espirit de corps. He however cautioned troops to stay away from unauthorised operations and recruitment fraud.The Gender Advisor to COAS ,Colonel Rahinatu Sledge Alando enlightened personnel on the relevance of the Ghana Medical Trust fund ( Mahama cares). She stated that funds are needed to eradicate chronic diseases which are not covered by the National Health Insurance Scheme and encouraged voluntary contributions towards the Trust Fund.In his conluding remarks, Major General Gbetanu expressed gratitude to all Officers, Soldiers and Defence Civilian Staff of 17 Army Signals Brigade and commended them for the swift deployment of a drone team to help restore peace and stability in Nkwanta.Also present during the visit was the Commissioner General of the Ghana Boundary Commission, Brigadier General Anthony Ntem, who is also the immediate past Commander of the 17 Army Signals Brigade.
