COAS Tours 1BN, 851 EOD Regiment, GASAE and BAD

The Chief of the Army Staff (COAS), Major General (Maj Gen) Lawrence Kwaku Gbetanu, paid his maiden visit to the 1 Infantry Battalion (1BN), 851 Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Regiment, Ghana Army School of Ammunition and Explosives (GASAE) and Base Ammunition Depot (BAD), at Michel Camp on Friday, 13 June 2025. This visit was part of the COAS' familiarization tour of Army Units and Military Installations.Maj Gen Gbetanu received briefings from the Commanding Officer (CO), 1 Infantry Battalion, Lieutenant Colonel (Lt Col) Frank Adams, on operational areas of responsibility, activities, logistics, challenges, and future projections. The Commander, Ghana Army School of Ammunition and Explosives (GASAE), Colonel Francis Laapo, and the Commanding Officer, Base Ammunition Depot (BAD), Lt Col Abdul Wahab Tahiru Issah, also briefed the COAS on their activities and challenges.Following the briefing, Maj Gen Gbetanu inspected some special equipment for the 851 Explosive Ordnance Disposal Regiment and commissioned a renovated Cook House for the 1 Infantry Battalion to enhance culinary services of the Unit.The COAS interacted with troops through a durbar, sharing his vision for the Army which is to ‘maintaining a motivated army grounded on core military values, enabled by adaptive technologies, and capable of projecting decisive land power as part of the Ghana Armed Forces’.  He emphasized the importance of training, fitness, and discipline, and announced the re-introduction of certain Army flagship exercises and training competitions to enhance cohesion and esprit de corps.Maj Gen Gbetanu addressed questions from personnel and advised troops to maintain discipline and professionalism. He also donated cash amounts to the various Units to boost morale of personnel.
