COAS Visits Army Peace Operations Training School, UNMISS GHANBATT 13

The Chief of the Army Staff (COAS), Major General (Maj Gen) Lawrence Kwaku Gbetanu on Tuesday, 10 June 2025 paid his maiden visit to the Army Peace Operations Training School (APOTS) at Bundase. The visit was also to interact with troops of United Nations Mission in South Sudan, Ghana Battalion 13 (UNMISS GH 13) as they approach the end of their pre-deployment training at APOTS.Upon arrival, the COAS received a comprehensive briefing by Commander APOTS, Col Reuben Dela Klutse on the activities, logistics, challenges and future projections of the Army Peace Operations Training School. As a gesture of appreciation, the Commander APOTS presented a customised plaque to the COAS.As part of the visit, the COAS commissioned a refurbished accommodation and its auxiliary washroom facility, demonstrating Command’s commitment to enhancing the welfare of troops on pre-deployment training.Maj Gen Gbetanu also inspected the ongoing construction of a 1000-seat Multipurpose Dining Hall and observed a field exercise showcasing the troops' skills and preparedness to be deployed for United Nations Peace Support Operations. Through a durbar, the COAS interacted with all ranks, addressing their concerns. He advised them to maintain professionalism, discipline, and uphold the esteemed reputation of the Ghana Armed Forces in Peacekeeping.He further shared his vision for the Army, which is, ‘to maintain a motivated Army grounded on core military values, enabled by adaptive technologies and platforms capable of projecting decisive land power as part of the Ghana Armed Forces’.Maj Gen Gbetanu explained that the Army is revisiting certain core military values such as the reintroduction of Basic Fitness Test as part of pre-deployment training to instil in personnel the urgency of keeping standard fitness levels.In a bid to boost the morale of personnel, the COAS donated two cash amounts: one for APOTS Instructors as motivation and another to cushion the end of pre-deployment get-together of UNMISS GH 13 to conclude their training.
