The Chief of the Army staff (COAS), Major General (Maj Gen) Lawrence Kwaku Gbetanu, paid his maiden visit to Headquarters 15 Armoured Brigade, Army Special Operations Brigade, 153 Armoured Regiment and 64 Infantry Regiment in Gondar Barracks, Burma Camp on Wednesday 09 July 2025.
The visit formed part of his familiarisation tour to gain firsthand insight into issues pertaining to Units under his Command.At the 15 Armoured Brigade Headquarters, the COAS was welcomed with a colourful Guard of Honour.
He was then briefed by the Brigade Commander, Brigadier General frank Tei, Deputy Commander, Colonel Ekow Mensah Yawson and the Commanding Officer of the 153 Armoured Regiment, Lieutenant Colonel David Kwasi Korsah on the operational, administrative and logistics matters of the Brigade and Regiment.
Later at the 64 Infantry Regiment, the COAS was warmly welcomed with a special female quarter guard. Afterwards, he was given a thorough briefing by the Army Special Operations Brigade Commander, Brigadier General Richard Mensah, Deputy Brigade Commander , Colonel Nana Darkwah and the Commanding officer of the 64 Infantry Regiment, Lieutenant Colonel Jamal Bamie.
Also as part of the visit, Major General Gbetanu had a joint durbar with all ranks at the Arakan Methodist Presby Church. In his remarks he emphasized his vision, which is to maintain a motivated Army grounded on core military values, enabled by adaptive technologies and platforms, capable of projecting decisive land power as part of the Ghana Armed Forces.
He disclosed plans to reinstate traditional exercises such as Exercises TIGER’S PATH, THUNDER BOLT, FIRE BLAST and Drill Competition to foster cohesion and espirit de corps among personnel.
The COAS further assured personnel of efforts being made to address the issue of accommodation and other challenges faced by personnel.
He again urged all to remain professional and avoid illegal operations, recruitment fraud, and all acts that will put the hard-earned reputation of the Ghana Armed Forces into disrepute.
