The 69 Airborne Force has held a handing/taking over ceremony to bid farewell to Colonel Louis Yaw Boakye, the immediate past Commanding Officer. The ceremony which was held on Thursday 12 June 2025 at Barwah Barracks, Tamale comprised signing of handing/taking over note, change of baton as well as commissioning of the Unit’s Washing Bay and two welfare Buses.
The Guest of Honour for the occasion, Air Commodore Nana Adu-Gyamfi, in his address commended the immediate past CO for achieving remarkable feats under his command, demonstrating unwavering commitment, discipline and professionalism and wished him success in his future endeavours.
He added that Colonel Boakye had maintained the Airborne Force’s status as an elite unit within GAF. “Through strategic foresight and resilience, you have chalked remarkable achievements and left behind a legacy worthy of emulation,” he noted. He congratulated the new CO, Lt Col Evans Yaw Kumedjah, on his appointment and urged all ranks to extend their unflinching support to him to achieve the Unit’s mission. He encouraged him to consolidate the gains and continue steering the Unit to greater operational excellence.
In his farewell remarks, Col Boakye expressed deep appreciation to the officers, men, women and civilian staff of the unit for their loyalty and hard work during his time in command. He highlighted several infrastructural and operational enhancements made under his leadership, including the construction of a pistol range, a garage for heavy-duty vehicles, a rappelling tower, drilling of two boreholes with poly tanks, and the procurement of two mini buses to support troop mobility.
Present at the ceremony were the outgoing and incoming General Officers Commanding Northern Command, Brigadier General Frank Nartey Tei and Brigadier General Frank Worlanyo Agbebo respectively. Other guests were the Commander Army Special Operations Brigade, Brigadier General Richard Mensah, Staff Officers from the Headquarters Northern Command and Air Force Base Tamale, Traditional Rulers, Friends and Families of the Unit.
