In a gesture of goodwill and regional solidarity, the Ghana Company 9 (GHANCOY 9) of the ECOWAS Mission in The Gambia (ECOMIG) has donated a significant quantity of medical supplies to the St Edward Francis Small Teaching Hospital, Ndemba in The Gambia on Wednesday 25 June 2025. The donation, which took place at the hospital grounds, is part of GHANCOY 9’s ongoing Civil-Military cooperation efforts to support healthcare delivery in The Gambia.
Presenting the items, Commanding Officer of GHANCOY 9, Lieutenant Colonel Ronne Yaw Agbemafle emphasized the importance of health in national development and reaffirmed the contingent’s commitment to supporting the communities they serve. “Our mission in The Gambia goes beyond peacekeeping. We believe in contributing positively to the well-being of the people. We recognise the critical role that healthcare institutions play in the lives of the population and we hope this donation would go a long way in improving the hospital’s capacity to provide care,” Lt Col RY Agbemafle said.
The items donated included mattresses, disposable gloves, surgical masks, intravenous fluids, disinfectants, packs of bottled water and other medications. Receiving the donation on behalf of the hospital, the Public Relations Officer of the hospital , Mr Kebba Sanneh, expressed deep appreciation for the support.
“This donation could not have come at a better time. We are grateful to ECOMIG GHANCOY 9 for their generosity and continued partnership. These supplies will certainly boost our efforts in serving the community,” Mr Sanneh said.
The ECOWAS Mission in The Gambia (ECOMIG), deployed in 2017, continues to play a crucial role in maintaining peace and supporting democratic governance in the country. GHANCOY 9, the ninth Ghanaian contingent, has been praised for its professionalism and community outreach during its deployment.
