Ghana Army Demonstrates Land Combat Prowess to Students of GAFCSC

The Ghana Army demonstrated its land combat capabilities to students of Senior Command and Staff Course 46 from the Ghana Armed Forces Command and Staff College on Friday, 1 November 2024.  The scenario-based exercise which took place at the Battle Training Camp in Bundase, demonstrated how fire assets are used in deep, close and rear operations, showcasing the Ghana Army's concept of operations and exposing the students to major equipment used by a Battle Group. A casualty evacuation was also simulated to demonstrate how wounded soldiers are swiftly evacuated from the battlefield and given the appropriate medical attention. The General Officer Commanding Southern Command, Brigadier General (Brig Gen) Samuel Yeboah Asare, in an address, asserted that the Ghana Army leads land-based operations to protect the country's territorial integrity and regularly trains to remain sharp. He emphasized that the exercise was a simulation of how a battle group, operating as part of a joint task force employs its resources to block and defeat an attack by a fictitious invading force in a multi- domain battle. The Guest of Honour for the exercise, the Chief of Air Staff (CAS), Air Vice Marshal Frederick Asare Kwasi Bekoe, urged military personnel to uphold professionalism as the nation approaches elections. He emphasized the need to preserve democracy and safeguard against unpatriotic activities that could undermine achievements. The CAS also commended personnel for their support and significant roles in the exercise, expressing confidence that students of the Senior Command and Staff Course had gained valuable lessons to enhance their understanding of land combat power. He stressed the importance of organizing more training exercises to ensure the Armed Forces' readiness to counter potential threats. This year’s exercise, was conducted with the 2 Infantry Battalion (2Bn) as the lead battalion, supported by 66 Artillery Regiment, 15 Armoured Brigade, 48 Engineer Regiment, 17 Signal Brigade, the Army Special Operations Brigade, with the Ghana Navy and the Ghana Air Force playing critical roles in the joint action.
