The General Officer Commanding (GOC) Northern Command, Brigadier General (Brig Gen) Worlanyo Agbebo on Tuesday 15 July 2025 paid operational visit to the Joint Task Force (JTF) Unit in Bawku.
The GOC as part of his visit interacted with troops of JTF deployed at the various detachments in Bawku. He stated that professionalism is the bedrock of every soldier. He advised them to remain neutral in the discharge of their duties urging them to give out their best in restoring calm and peace in Bawku and its environs.
The visit saw the GOC paying courtesy call on the Bawku Naaba and his Council of Elders, following the recent hostile firing in the Bawku township which led to the demolition of the statue of the Zugran. The GOC stated that, the aim of the courtesy call was to convey the displeasure of the Military High Command about the destruction of the Zugran’s statue.
He emphasised that, no such order was given to the troops adding that, the Military High Command would do everything to fish out the culprits for further punishment. The GOC mentioned that, all efforts would be made to replace the statue as soon as practicable.
Brig Gen Agbebo reiterated the Ghana Armed Forces’ commitment to professionalism, discipline and respect for civil authority and traditional leaders. He used the opportunity to express his appreciation to the Bawku Naaba for his reception, continuous support and collaborative effort to help in maintaining law and order in Bawku and its environs.
The GOC assured him that, the military will remain neutral and professional in restoring calm in Bawku.
He also condemned the behavior of the youth in Bawku and appealed to the Bawku Naaba and his elders to impress on the youth to exercise restraint and join hands with the military to ensure peace in Bawku.
Present during the visit were the Upper East Regional Minister, Commander Joint Task Force- Bawku and Staff Officers from the Headquarters Northern Command.
