The maiden Artillery Young Officers Course 1-25 has officially commenced at the Artillery Training School at Akoefe Training Camp in the Volta Region. The opening ceremony was held on Monday 14 July 2025.

In a welcome address delivered by the Commanding Officer of the School, Lieutenant Colonel Patrick Atuiri, he stated that the vision of organising an Artillery Young Officers course has been in the pipeline for many years. According to him, generations of Artillery Officers ponder over the idea on several platforms. He lauded the birth of the 16 Artillery Brigade for playing a critical role in making this dream a reality.

The Guest of Honor, Commander Army Training Command, Brigadier General Joshua Amanor, in his remarks stated that this first ever course is a clear statement of intent. He also indicated that the course reflects the bold step taken by the corps to institutionalise officer training through homegrown excellence, driven by professional initiative. He further cautioned the officers to approach the course with all seriousness, discipline, curiosity and determination.

The 16 Artillery Brigade Commander, Brigadier General Serlom Kwesi Amengor also admonished the officers to take this opportunity to approach every lesson with seriousness since most of them are potential examiners in the future.

The opening ceremony of the course was graced by Colonel Edward Sarpong Appiah, Chief G3 of the 16 Artillery Brigade, Lieutenant Colonel Jalali Din Ibrahim, Commanding Officer 66 Artillery Regiment and Lieutenant Colonel Larry Boateng, Commanding Officer 68 Artillery Regiment.
