A five-member delegation from the National Investment Bank (NIB), led by Managing Director, Chief Dr Doliwura Zakaria, paid a courtesy call on the Chief of the Army Staff (COAS), Major General Lawrence Kwaku Gbetanu, at the Army Headquarters on Thursday, 10 July 2025.
The visit aimed to officially congratulate the COAS on his recent appointment and to introduce the NIB team as key stakeholders in the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) Provident Fund. They sought to affirm their support to him as the Chairman of the Fund’s Board.
In his remarks, Chief Dr Doliwura Zakaria highlighted his close association with the military, which has given him a deep appreciation for the discipline of the Ghana Armed Forces. He emphasized that the GAF Provident Fund plays a pivotal role in the NIB’s success due to the unwavering support from the military.
He proudly announced that NIB has risen to become the most capitalized bank among Ghana’s 23 banks, boosting outstanding performance. He also revealed plans for the bank to be listed on the Ghana Stock Exchange soon, with hopes that the GAF would continue to play an active role on the board.
Chief Dr Zakaria expressed confidence that with this significant transformation, NIB has the potential to become the top financial brand in the country, largely due to the support from the Ghana Armed Forces. He assured that this support will not be taken for granted and pledged the bank’s commitment to corporate social responsibility initiatives benefiting the military community.
He congratulated the COAS once again and reassured him that the GAF Provident Fund remains in safe hands. He promised continued collaboration for the mutual benefit of the Ghana Armed Forces and expressed readiness to support any cause when called upon.
Major General Lawrence Kwaku Gbetanu in his response warmly welcomed the delegation and congratulated Chief Dr Zakaria on his leadership. He acknowledged the important role of NIB as the fund manager of the GAF Provident Fund, emphasizing that the military hierarchy is committed to ensuring the fund’s security and growth for the benefit of all personnel.
The COAS further urged the fund managers to ensure that all investments and initiatives related to the provident fund are handled with utmost care and transparency to safeguard the interests of the GAF personnel.
The delegation was accompanied by Director General of Legal Services, Brigadier General Charles Gbekle, and Director Resettlement, Colonel Joseph Kobla Buame.
