1 Infantry Battalion Hosts Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign

The 1 Infantry Battalion (1BN), in collaboration with the 1 Medical Reception Station (1MRS), organised a Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign featuring a health walk and free screening at Michel Camp on Saturday, 11 October 2025.

The campaign raises awareness among personnel, their dependents, and the public about the importance of early detection, treatment, prevention, reducing stigma, and supporting those affected by breast cancer.

Delivering a presentation on breast health, the Nursing Officer in Charge of 1MRS and Gender Focal Point for 1BN, Flight Lieutenant (Flt Lt) Nancy Alifui, emphasised that continuous public education and early detection are vital to lowering breast cancer mortality rates. She encouraged attendees to prioritise regular medical screenings and seek prompt professional care if any abnormalities are noticed.

Flt Lt Alifui further outlined the signs and symptoms of breast cancer, its risk factors, preventive measures, and treatment options including surgery, hormonal therapy, and chemotherapy. She also stressed the importance of empathy and emotional support, recognizing the psychological impact of the disease.

The Commanding Officer of 1BN, Lt Colonel Frank Adams, commended the initiative and encouraged personnel to take their health seriously through regular medical screening. He called on all to join the collective fight against breast cancer, emphasising that the disease affects both men and women and needs increased public awareness and support.
