The 1 Infantry Battalion (1BN) has launched the Southern Command Basic Non-Commissioned Officers Tactical Course (BNTC) 1-25, designed for 45 Non-Commissioned Officers (NCOs) from the 153 Armoured Regiment, Jungle Warfare School, and the 66 Artillery Regiment. This initiative commenced on 4 June 2025 at Michel Camp in Tema and will span 16 weeks.
The course is strategically developed to enhance tactical reasoning and decision-making capabilities, essential for modern warfare dynamics. It aims to cultivate leadership competencies at junior levels while providing participants with hands-on experience in planning and executing complex exercises and operations aligned with their respective command structures.
The General Officer Commanding (GOC) Southern Command, Brigadier General (Brig Gen) Isaac Nicholas Paintsil indicated that the NCO's role is very crucial as the backbone of military effectiveness. He emphasized the necessity for these leaders to make swift and sound decisions under battlefield pressures, ensuring alignment with mission objectives.
Brig Gen Paintsil encouraged NCOs to mentor and inspire future soldiers, with an expectation of excellence in training. He therefore urged participants to take the course seriously, prioritize training, which is essential for confidence in their roles, network with one another, and respect the hierarchy within the army.
He encouraged active participation, inquiries, and collaboration to maximize learning and professional growth in order to be equipped with the knowledge, skills, and confidence needed for success in their roles.
