This year's African Land Forces Summit, co-hosted by the Ghana Army and the United States Army Southern European Task Force-Africa (SETAF-AF) at the Kempinski Hotel in Accra, has officially ended on Thursday, 10 April 2025.
The four-day summit brought together land force commanders from nearly 40 African countries, as well as representatives from partner countries, academic institutions, and government agencies to share security challenges and innovative solutions.
Speaking at the closing ceremony, the Commanding General of SETAF-AF, Major General (Maj Gen) Andrew C Gainey, described the summit as an unmatched platform for military leaders to exchange ideas, strengthen partnerships, and enhance shared security.
He expressed gratitude to the Ghana Army for its hospitality as well as showcasing its military capabilities and rich Ghanaian culture during the summit.
Maj Gen Gainey emphasized the United States Army's commitment to enabling partners' operational capacity and delivering opportunities for multinational collaboration.
The Commanding General encouraged participants to apply the lessons learnt and continue building multinational connections which are essential for peace and prosperity in Africa.
On his part, Ghana's Chief of the Army Staff (COAS), Maj Gen Lawrence Kwaku Gbetanu, noted that the summit provided an opportunity for the Ghana Army to demonstrate its capabilities as well as showcase some aspects of the Ghanaian culture.
He asserted that the Ghana Army cherishes the enduring partnership existing between the Ghana Armed Forces and the United States Army and will continuously strive to deepen it.
The COAS commended the tireless and meticulous efforts of the joint planning team of personnel from the Ghana Army and the United States Army, who ensured the successful and seamless execution of the summit.
The Deputy Minister for Defence, Honourable (Hon) Ernest Brogya Gyenfi, described the summit as a timely platform for thoughtful dialogue, innovative ideas, and reconsolidating partnerships. He congratulated the Ghana Army and its co-host, the United States Army, Southern European Task Force, Africa, on the successful conduct of the summit.
Hon Brogya Gyenfi emphasized Ghana's commitment to playing a leading role in providing a platform for allies and friendly nations to deliberate on common challenges. He conveyed the appreciation of the Government and people of Ghana to the United States government for their partnership.
The summit featured plenary sessions, small-group discussions, and a military demonstration by the Ghana Armed Forces.
