A three-member delegation from AngloGold Ashanti Obuasi Mine, led by the new Managing Director, Mr. Samuel Boakye Pobee, paid a courtesy call on the Chief of the Army Staff (COAS), Major General Lawrence Kwaku Gbetanu, at the Army Headquarters on Thursday, 17 April 2025.
The visit aimed to introduce Mr. Pobee to the COAS, congratulate the COAS on his appointment, and discuss security concerns related to the mine. Mr. Pobee expressed appreciation for the support from the military and recalled the incident involving soldiers and illegal miners, extending sympathies and calling for increased collaboration to prevent such occurrences. He further assured of continuous support to the military.
The COAS congratulated Mr Pobee, welcomed him, and acknowledged the completion of the first phase of the Forward Operating Base (FOB) at Obuasi, with plans for subsequent phases. He mentioned having been briefed on security issues at Obuasi and assured that guidelines were in place for soldiers to deal with threats, emphasizing future engagement to strengthen cooperation.
Present at the meeting were the Acting Chief Staff Officer at the Army Headquarters, Brigadier General Kwaku Dankwa Hagan, Chief Projects and Services, Colonel Albert Tekyi, Senior Security Manager Obuasi mines, Mr. Desmond Awatey Banahene, and the Communications Specialist of Obuasi mines, Ms. Keziah Enyan.
