Army Combat Training School Conducts Field Training Exercise for Students on Tactical and Weapon Courses

The Army Combat Training School (ACTS) has conducted its first Field Training Exercise (FTX) for the second batch of courses for the year 2024. The exercise was conducted in the general areas of Shai Osudoku, Akuse and Asutuare from 25 to 29 August 2024.

The courses involved included the Combat Team Commanders Course 2-24, Young Officers Course 2-24, Advanced Non-Commissioned Officers Tactical Course 2-24, Basic Medium Machine Gun Course 1-24, Basic Infantry Platoon Weapons Course 1-24, and the Basic Mortar Course 2-24.

The exercise was designed to practise students in all phases of war including defensive and offensive operations, employment of medium and heavy infantry platoon weapons and field administration. Set at the Battle Group Level, the exercises also involved personnel from Southern Command Units, the Armour Brigade and 37 Military Hospital.

The FTX was aimed at training students in the organisation, manoeuvring and administration of a Battle Group in the field. It tested students in 8km advance to contact, withdrawal, the conduct of fighting patrols, reconnaissance and a deliberate day attack. Physically, students were also challenged in testing their ability to endure combat operations in adverse conditions.

The FTX ended successfully on Thursday 29 August 2024. The exercise served as a precursor for the Final Field Training Exercise (FFTX) scheduled for September 2024.

The successful completion of the FTX 2-2024 exemplifies the dedication of the School in providing comprehensive and realistic training experiences for students during their courses. The exercise not only honed the tactical skills of the students   but also fostered a culture of safety and preparedness. It also highlighted the importance of adequate medical support during the field exercises and the employment around to support the infantry in difficult terrains.

The invaluable experience gained from this FTX will undoubtedly contribute to the enhanced readiness and effectiveness of the participants in their future roles within the military.
