The Army Special Operations Brigade (ASOB) has marked a successful completion of Basic Commando Course 1-25, signifying an important milestone as it continues to play the crucial role of training personnel of the Ghana Armed Forces in Commando Courses.
The ceremony which was held on Friday 17 October 2025 at the Barwah Barracks Tamale, crowned what commenced in July this year with a total of 36 personnel. The course was aimed at instilling resilience, adaptability and leadership qualities required to operate in any terrain and in any circumstance.
The Guest of Honour (GoH) for the occasion, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) Northern Command, Brigadier General Worlanyo Agbebo in his address commended the Commander Army Special Operations Brigade, Brigadier General Richard Mensah for his relentless effort to standardise commando training across the Ghana Armed Forces, setting a benchmark for excellence.
He also commended the soldiers for their dedication and perseverance throughout the training. He added that, the training was not solely about physical endurance or technical expertise but captivating mind set, a refusal to quit, commitment to excellence and an unbreakable loyalty. He charged them to effectively apply the knowledge gained as they would be employed in various roles.
The GOC acknowledged the efforts of the instructors, administrative and support staff in making the training successful. He also congratulated the soldiers on completing the course and urged them to remain loyal, disciplined and professional as well as masters of their craft.
The Commander ASOB in his remarks commended the graduating commandos on their achievement, adding that, they have earned their place in the brotherhood of warriors. He further stated that, graduation is not the end but the beginning of life of service defined by discipline, discretion, mission forecast and unquestionable loyalty to the Country.
He urged the new commandos to wear their badges with pride as their determination and endurance has earned them the unique Commando Badge and the right to be members of the tier 2 elite force of the Ghana Army.
Present at the ceremony were the Commander Air Force Training Command, Air Commodore Richard Danso, Deputy Commander ASOB, Col Antwi Awuah Darkwa, Commanding Officer (CO) Army Special Operation Training School, Lt Col Ernest Darkwah, CO 93 Signal Regiment, Lt Col Benjamin Adjei, CO 6 BN, Lt Col Jerry Yao Ankuyi, Commander Rear 69 Airborne Force, Lt Col Atta Junior Kwarteng, partners from Denmark and UK, officers, soldiers and defence civilian staff of 69 Airborne Force.
