Army Wives Association Organises Health Walk to Promote Wellness and Unity

The Army Wives Association (AWA) of the Ghana Army on Saturday, 21 February 2026, organised a health walk as part of efforts to promote physical fitness, mental well-being and unity among members. The event commenced at the Nicholson Sports Stadium at Burma Camp and saw participants walk through selected principal streets of Accra before returning to the starting point.The initiative marked the beginning of the Association’s activities for the year and underscored the importance of healthy living within the military family. The walk brought together members in an atmosphere of enthusiasm and camaraderie, reinforcing bonds of friendship and solidarity.

In an interview, the Association’s President, Mrs Patience Dzifa Gbetanu, stated that as the Association begins a new year, it was important to take proactive steps towards maintaining sound health. She noted that the exercise was not only to keep members physically fit but also to refresh their minds, stressing that “a sound mind lives in a healthy body.”Mrs Gbetanu encouraged members to remain united and supportive of one another, drawing inspiration from the Association’s motto, “We are pillars of pride.” She urged the wives to continue standing tall as pillars of strength for their families, spouses and the nation. She further expressed appreciation to members for their active participation and called for sustained involvement in future programmes to maintain unity and harmony within the Association.In addition to the health walk, members engaged in recreational activities including tug-of-war, lime-and-spoon race and bottle-filling competitions. These activities were designed to promote teamwork, strengthen bonds and enhance long-term wellness among participants.The programme reaffirmed the Army Wives Association’s commitment to fostering cohesion, resilience and well-being within the Ghana Army community.
