The Army Recruit Training School (ARTS) has held the 2025 edition of the West African Soldiers Social Activity (WASSA) on Friday, 12 December, 2025 at Shai HILLS, celebrating a year of intensive training, institutional achievement and unit cohesion.
The event brought together officers, soldiers, Defence Civilian Staff, retirees, traditional leaders and local government officials in an atmosphere of reflection, gratitude and camaraderie. As part of the WASSA celebration, personnel also participated in fun games that fostered esprit de corps and relaxation.
Speaking on behalf of the Guest of Honour, Commander Army Training Command (ATRAC), Brigadier General Joshua Amanor, the Chief Training Officer, ( ATRAC), Colonel Nicholas Baba Adombire-Akologo, lauded ARTS for upholding the “Hard Training, Easy Battle” ethos.
He described WASSA as more than a ceremony, emphasizing its role in honouring dedication, discipline and sacrifice throughout the year. He also paid solemn tribute to personnel who have made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty and saluted the “silent strength” of families whose unwavering support enables soldiers to serve.
The Commanding Officer, ARTS, Lieutenant Colonel Ambitious Nazar, described WASSA as a vital opportunity to pause after a demanding training year, to appreciate collective achievements, and to strengthen the bonds that make the unit a family.
He commended his officers, instructors, soldiers and civilian staff for producing physically fit, tactically proficient and mentally resilient recruits grounded in strong values. He further acknowledged the enduring support of families and loved ones, noting that their patience and prayers underpin the school’s success.
The ceremony also recognised eleven retirees, who were honoured with awards and citations for their loyal service and contributions to the school. Looking ahead, ARTS reaffirmed its commitment to remaining mission-ready and resilient, pledging to uphold the highest standards of the Ghana Army as it prepares to train the next generation of professional soldiers in the coming year.
