The Deputy Chief Staff Officer for Operations and Training at the Army Headquarters, Brigadier General William Archibald Kwabiah, has officially inaugurated the pre-course cadre for the first half of 2026 for Ghana Army Officers nominated for Junior Staff Course (JSC) 85. The opening ceremony took place at the Dohazari Auditorium of the Defence Mechanical Transport Battalion, Burma Camp, on Monday 12 January 2026. Addre
ssing the 42 participants drawn from various units of the Ghana Army, Brigadier General Kwabiah, as the Guest of Honour, explained that the two-week cadre was carefully structured to sharpen officers’ competencies in service writing and operational staff duties.
He emphasised that the programme has been designed to equip participants with the requisite skills to perform their duties effectively, serving as a critical preparatory platform for the Army participants of JSC 85 at the Ghana Armed Forces Command and Staff College (GAFCSC). He therefore urged the participants to strive and maintain, if not surpass, the standard set by their predecessors.
Brigadier General Kwabiah further highlighted the cadre’s consistent success since its inception, citing positive feedback from past participants as evidence of its relevance and effectiveness.
He described the cadre as indispensable groundwork ahead of the main course. He emphasised the significance of the Junior Staff Course as the first major staff course for many officers and as a foundational step towards the Senior Staff Course. He consequently encouraged all participants to apply themselves diligently to their studies, engage in extensive reading, and maintain mental clarity to achieve excellence.
Brigadier General Kwabiah also revealed that the Chief of the Army Staff (COAS), Major General Lawrence Kwaku Gbetanu, attaches great importance to the success of the cadre and expects its objectives to be pursued without compromise.
