CO UNIFIL Ghanbatt 92 Meets with Southern Lebanese Mayors

The Commanding Officer (CO) for the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) Ghanaian Battalion 92 (GHANBATT 92), Lieutenant Colonel Evans Yaw Mensah Komedjah, visited the mayors of Rumaysh, Al-Qawzah, and Bayt Lif on Thursday, 2 October 2025.The visits served as an official introduction following his recent assumption of command and operational responsibilities of Southern Lebanon.In Rumaysh, Mayor Abbass Issa welcomed Lt Col Komedjah and his delegation. He emphasized the importance of the battalion's continued support for local security and social services, stressing the need to strengthen the partnership between the community and the Ghanaian peacekeepers. During the meeting in Al-Qawzah, Mayor Charbel Rizk thanked the CO for the visit. He requested an increase in social programs for children and asked the battalion to encourage its drivers to be cautious when driving and reduce speed to ensure public safety.The final meeting was with Bayt Lif Mayor Izzat Hammoud, who commended GHANBATT for its helpful community engagements, which provided numerous benefits to his community.As a gesture of appreciation, Lt Col Komedjah presented each mayor with customized Ghanaian Kente stole, plaque, and other artefacts. He assured of the battalion’s commitment to reinforcing its relations with the community and peacekeeping mandate.Accompanying the CO were the Information Analyst, Lt Col Nii Okai Ankra, Chief Operations Officer Major Lodo Delali, Nursing Officer Capt Nuertey Samuel, and the Ghanbatt Regimental Sergeant Major, SWOII Sorbobr Victor Kyetaa.
