The Chief of the Army Staff (COAS), Major General (Maj Gen) Bismarck Kwasi Onwona on Thursday, 28 November 2024 visited and interacted with personnel of the ECOWAS Mission in the Gambia, Ghana Company 9 (ECOMIG GHANCOY 9) and the ECOWAS Stabilization Support Mission in Guinea Bissau, Ghana Company 4 (ESSMGB GHANCOY 4) who have completed their pre-deployment training at the Battle Training Camp, Bundase.The visit was aimed to reinforce his vision and share concerns regarding peacekeeping and logistics.As part of the visit, the COAS with the support of the Chief Executive Officer of ISNew Generation, Mr Ishmael Ntsiful commissioned a concrete signpost for the Army Peace Operations Training School. Maj Gen Onwona also commissioned newly constructed volleyball courts jointly constructed by the two Commanding Officers of both missions.At a durbar with troops, the COAS stressed that discipline and professionalism are the Ghana Army's hallmarks and urged all to maintain the Army’s professional posture. He added that efforts were in place to resolve promotion challenges amongst personnel as well as alleviate accommodation issues. The COAS emphasized the need to support civil authorities in the upcoming general elections and maintain good civil-military relations. He also entreated all to maintain cordial relationship with the media and treat media partners with respect and hospitality for them to gladly project the activities of the Ghana Armed Forces.He further urged troops to exhibit professionalism, refrain from social media abuse, and prioritize equipment maintenance when they are inserted into the mission areas.Finally, the COAS answered questions from troops to clear their doubts on matters of concern to them and gave undisclosed amounts of money to ECOMIG GHANCOY 9, ESSM-GB GHANCOY 4 and APOTS to support their end of pre-deployment get-together.
