COAS Visits Troops of UNIFIL GH 92 At APOTS BTC

The Chief of the Army Staff (COAS), Major General (Maj Gen) Lawrence Kwaku Gbetanu, on Thursday, 21 August 2025, conducted an operational visit to the Army Peace Operations Training School (APOTS) at the Battle Training Camp (BTC) in Bundase. The purpose of the visit was to engage with troops of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) Ghana Battalion 92 (GHANBATT 92), who are concluding a seven-week pre-deployment training program.The COAS on arrival at the camp, inspected a quarter guard mounted in his honour. Accompanied by some principal staff officers from the Army Headquarters, the COAS observed a simulated access denial exercise. The demonstration featured a scenario where a patrol team was denied access on its route, effectively showcasing the troops' negotiation skills and overall preparedness for United Nations Peace Support Operations in Southern Lebanon.Following a tour of some projects, Maj Gen Gbetanu commissioned a newly renovated accommodation adjacent the general cookhouse. The project was undertaken by UNIFIL GHANBATT 92 under the leadership of Lieutenant Colonel Evans Yaw Kumedjah, augmenting High Command's commitment to troop welfare. The COAS also pledged two air conditioners for the facility. The Commander APOTS, Colonel Reuben Dela Klutse took the opportunity to update the COAS on the progress of work of the construction of multipurpose basketball and volleyball pitches as well as a standard football pitch for the School.Addressing instructors and troops at a durbar, Maj Gen Gbetanu reminded troops to remain mindful of the existing conflicts in their mission area and to demonstrate resilience in their duties. He urged them to maintain professionalism and discipline, upholding the esteemed reputation of the Ghana Armed Forces in UN Peace Support Operations. The COAS further advised personnel to utilize the appropriate chain of command to address concerns, rather than resorting to social media. He also held a question-and-answer session to address specific troop concerns. To boost morale, Maj Gen Gbetanu made two cash donations: one to support APOTS and another to fund the end-of-training get-together for UNIFIL GHANBATT 92.Also in the company of the COAS were several senior officers, including the Commander, Army Training Command (ATRAC), Brigadier General (Brig Gen) Joshua Amanor; the Deputy Chief Staff Officer (Logistics), Brig Gen Jude Barry Mwinyel, the Deputy Chief Staff Officer (Operations and Training), Brig Gen William Kwabiah; and other principal staff officers from the Army Headquarters.
