Commander, ATRAC Opens EU-Sponsored Ammunition Management and Technology Course

The Ghana Army School of Ammunition and Explosives (GASAE), in collaboration with the European Union (EU), has commenced a EU-Sponsored Ammunition Management and Technology Course at Michel Camp on Tuesday, 18 November 2025.

The three-week programme, facilitated by French instructors, is designed to build the capacity of participants in modern ammunition storage, handling, and stockpile management, while strengthening cooperation between the EU and the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF).

The Guest of Honour, Commander Army Training Command (ATRAC), Brigadier General Joshua Amanor, formally opened the course and commended the EU for its sustained support to the Ghana Armed Forces. He noted that the evolving character of warfare demands advanced technological approaches to ammunition management, citing innovations such as QR-coded tracking systems.

He emphasised that effective ammunition management is central to operational readiness and warned that lapses in the process could result in severe consequences. He encouraged participants to approach the training with diligence, curiosity, and professionalism, and to apply the knowledge gained to enhance safety and efficiency across their various units.

Acting Commander of GASAE, Lt Col Frank Tetteh-Kumah, stated that the course represents another important step in strengthening the professional capacity of GAF personnel in the safe and accountable management of ammunition and explosives.

A representative of the European Union, Lieutenant Colonel Pierre Surville, delivered remarks on behalf of the EU Ambassador to Ghana reaffirming the EU’s commitment to supporting Ghana’s defence capacity-building efforts. He stressed that proper ammunition management remains vital to safety, stability, and overall combat effectiveness.
