As part of activities marking the 2025 Pink October Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the ECOWAS Mission in The Gambia (ECOMIG) GHANCOY 9 organized a health awareness route march from Barra to Essau General Hospital on Thursday, 9th October 2025.
The event, led by the Officer Commanding of GHANCOY 9, Lt Col Ronne Yaw Agbemafle, witnessed the participation of officers, soldiers of GHANCOY 9, alongside personnel from the Gambia Defence and Security Forces.
The march aimed to raise awareness on breast cancer and emphasize the importance of early detection and regular medical screening.
The participants received a health presentation from Captain Albert Kwarteng, the Medical Officer of GHANCOY 9. His lecture focused on the causes, symptoms, and prevention of breast cancer, as well as the critical role of early diagnosis in saving lives.
The session was followed by a free medical screening and consultation for attendees, conducted by the ECOMIG medical team.
Lt Col Agbemafle commended the participants for their enthusiasm and reaffirmed ECOMIG’s commitment to supporting community health initiatives as part of its Civil-Military Cooperation (CIMIC) activities.
The Pink October campaign forms part of ECOMIG’s ongoing effort to promote health awareness and strengthen relations between the mission and local communities in The Gambia.
