ECOMIG GHANCOY 9 Supports Essau and Kerewan ahead of Tobaski

The ECOWAS Mission in The Gambia Ghanaian Company (ECOMIG GHANCOY 9), under the leadership of Lt Col Ronne Yaw Agbemafle, extended assistance to Essau and Kerewan in the North Bank Region on Thursday, 5 June 2025, ahead of the Tobaski (Eid al-Adha) festival.

The support included food items such as bags of rice, cooking oil, prayer mats, ablution plastic kettles, assorted drinks, and rams for the various communities. In his speech, the Commanding Officer of GHANCOY 9, Lt Col Agbemafle, emphasized the mission’s commitment to fostering peace, cooperation, and goodwill among the Gambian people.

“Tobaski is a time of sacrifice, compassion, and unity. We recognize the importance of this celebration to the people of The Gambia, and it is our honour to contribute in our small way to support the communities during this important occasion,” He said.

Receiving the items on behalf of the communities, the Deputy Governor of the North Bank Region, Dembo Samateh, expressed gratitude for the gesture, noting that the support shows ECOMIG is not just about security, but also about being part of the community and sharing in their values.

He further indicated that as preparations for Tobaski intensify across the country, GHANCOY 9’s gesture is seen as a timely act of goodwill that reinforces the bonds between the ECOWAS peacekeeping mission and the people they serve.
