GASAE Closes First CBRN Training Course

The Ghana Army School of Ammunition and Explosives (GASAE) successfully concluded Ghana’s first Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear (CBRN) Training Course on Friday 6 February 2026, at Michel Camp, Tema.

The Chief Coordinator at the Army Training Command (ATRAC), Colonel Prince Tandoh, represented the Commander ATRAC as the Guest of Honour.

He lauded GASAE’s delivery of essential CBRN training, which he said would contribute to strengthening the national defence posture. He emphasised that expert detection, strict protocols, and decisive response mechanisms are vital for operational excellence.

Participants gained knowledge of CBRN agent profiles, effects, hazards, and international standards through a rigorous two-week programme. This increased the Ghana Armed Forces’ ability to identify, neutralise, and mitigate threats, thereby safeguarding lives and infrastructure.

Colonel Tandoh expressed sincere appreciation to the French Armed Forces for their key technical support, which helped align GAF with global CBRN standards. He also commended the French instructors for their exemplary professionalism. To the graduates, he assured that the certification signifies increased responsibilities: deploying as experts, applying lessons learned, refining unit procedures, and demonstrating leadership.

GASAE Acting Commander, Lieutenant Colonel Frank Tetteh-Kumah, outlined the curriculum covering detection, protection, decontamination, equipment procedures, prevention, and response. Framed as a training-of-trainers model, it aims to develop nationwide CBRN proficiency. He pledged that GASAE would expand CBRN training to Special Forces.

French Defence Attaché Colonel Grégoire Madelin praised the trainees for their discipline, agility, and mastery of procedures. France reaffirms its commitment to progressive CBRN development.

Awards were presented to outstanding participants, with Sergeant Quao Godwin named Overall Best Participant, L/ Cpl Karikari Enoch and L/ Cpl Ofori Nkansah Edmund, achieving second and third positions respectively.
