Ghana Army Holds Closing Ceremony for Operational Intelligence Upgrade Course 2-2025

The Deputy Chief Staff Officer, Policy and Plans (DCSO P&P) at Army Headquarters, Brigadier General Yehuza Salifu, officially closed the second edition of the Operational Intelligence Upgrade Course for 2025 at the 5 Battalion Infantry lecture hall, Burma Camp, on Thursday, 17 April 2025.

 

This two-week course, designed to enhance the capabilities of personnel in tactical intelligence operations, was hosted by the Ghana Army with support from the Southern European Task Force, Africa (SETAF-AF) through the Office of Security Cooperation (OSC) at the US Embassy, Accra. It included 16 participants selected from the three Services of the Ghana Armed Forces.

In his closing remarks, Brigadier General Salifu thanked the American partners for their significant support through training and sponsored courses, both locally and abroad, aimed at building the capacities of Ghana Armed Forces personnel. He also commended the Army Headquarters Intelligence Branch for organizing the course.

He emphasized that the program upgraded participants’ intelligence skills and knowledge, which are vital not only for their individual units but also for the collective strength of the Ghana Armed Forces, forming a foundation for their future contributions to national security.

 

Brigadier General Salifu praised the participants for their dedication and hard work, noting that they have been exposed to emerging security threats. He stressed that the exposure should enable them to anticipate challenges and respond effectively to tactical operations. He urged them to apply the skills and insights gained, stressing that their collective success depends on upholding the highest standards of professionalism and integrity.

Major Chris Sandoval, representing the OSC of the US Embassy and SETAF-AF, expressed sincere thanks to the Ghana Army for their support and hospitality. He praised the quality, enthusiasm, and professionalism of the 16 intelligence professionals trained and expressed confidence that they would serve with distinction in their future assignments.

 

Major Sandoval highlighted that the course covered topics from the law of armed conflict and international human rights to rigorous analytical frameworks that drive operations. He looked forward to continued cooperation and friendship to build intelligence capacity and interoperability between the two militaries in their joint efforts toward peace.

Present at the closing ceremony were the Chief G2 Counterterrorism, Colonel Mark Ankobiah, Chief G2 Training, Colonel Eric Nelson Tenadu, Representative of SETAF-AF, Chief John McCarthy, Senior Officers and soldiers from the Ghana Army Headquarters.
