The Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) of the Ghana Army, Major General Lawrence Kwaku Gbetanu, and his delegation participated in the First ever Army Chiefs’ Conclave of United Nations Troop Contributing Countries (TCCs) held in New Delhi, India, from 13 to 16 October 2025. The conclave, hosted by the Chief of the Army Staff of India, General Upendra Dwivedi, brought together Army Chiefs and senior representatives from 33 UN TCCs.
The theme for the conclave, “Capacity Building and Resource Mobilisation for Sustainable Peacekeeping Operations,” served as a platform for direct engagement among the leadership of UN troop-contributing countries to discuss strategies for enhancing interoperability, improving performance accountability, and leveraging technology to address emerging challenges in UN peacekeeping operations.
On the sidelines of the conclave, Major General Gbetanu held bilateral discussions with General Upendra Dwivedi, focusing on expanding professional relations; exploring new avenues in strengthening defence cooperation, expanding training exchanges, and exploring new avenues for collaboration between the Ghana Army and the Indian Army.
Their engagement underscored the longstanding bonds between the two countries, built through shared service in UN peacekeeping and mutual professional respect. The Ghanaian delegation also interacted with counterparts from other participating nations, engaging in constructive corridor diplomacy aimed at promoting security partnerships and advancing collective contributions to global peacekeeping efforts.
The COAS, Major General Lawrence Gbetanu addressed the conclave and later laid a wreath on behalf of the Ghana Army at the National War Memorial of India, followed by planting of a symbolic tree. There was also an integrated technology demonstration by the Indian Army, followed by a technology exhibition. Ghana Army remains fully committed to the ideals of peacekeeping and to partnerships that enhance collective efforts for more effective, responsive, and future-ready peacekeeping forces.
