The Ghana Artillery Officers Association (GAOA) has organised a cohesion-building social event on Sunday 15 February 2026, at the Arakan Officers’ Mess, Burma Camp, Accra. The event brought together serving and retired Artillery officers, their spouses and guests in an atmosphere of camaraderie, appreciation and regimental pride.
The programme formed part of the Association’s annual social calendar, aimed at strengthening esprit de corps, fostering family bonds and reinforcing the enduring traditions of the Artillery Corps. It highlighted GAOA’s commitment not only to operational excellence but also to the welfare and unity of its members and their families.
In his welcome address, the President of the Association, Brigadier General Nicholas Kporku (Rtd), expressed profound appreciation to members and their spouses for their dedication, sacrifice and unwavering support to the Artillery Corps and the Ghana Army at large. He emphasised that strong family foundations are essential to operational readiness and mission success.
He noted that the event was designed to promote unity and solidarity among Artillery officers and their families, to recognise the invaluable role of spouses in supporting demanding military careers, and to provide a relaxed platform for networking, mentorship, and intergenerational engagement between serving and retired officers.
He further commended the welfare team for successfully implementing an insurance scheme for the Association and encouraged greater patronage of the initiative.
Brigadier General Kporku also praised officers of the Corps for their resilience, determination and mental fortitude, particularly for excelling in both internal and external courses. He further urged Commanding Officers of Artillery Regiments to encourage young officers under their command to actively participate in GAOA activities.
The event served as a reminder that the strength of the Artillery Corps lies not only in its firepower and operational capability but also in the unity, morale and shared purpose of its personnel. By bringing officers and their families together in a relaxed setting, the Association reaffirmed the importance of mutual support in sustaining combat effectiveness.
In a brief remark, a former Chief of the Defence Staff and member of the Association, Major General Edwin Sam (Rtd), reiterated GAOA’s commitment to promoting the welfare, cohesion and professional excellence of its members in support of the Ghana Army’s overarching mission. He urged serving Artillery officers to continue giving their best as they contribute to safeguarding the territorial integrity of the nation.
