Ghanaian Engineering Troops Deploy to Jamaica After Hurricane Melissa

The Ghana Army Engineering Reconstruction Team arrived in Jamaica on Thursday 17 December 2025 to support recovery efforts following the devastation caused by Hurricane Melissa. The contingent was conveyed on a United States Air Force C-17 Globemaster and landed at Norman Manley International Airport, Kingston. Upon arrival, the troops were officially received by Jamaica’s Foreign Minister, Hon. Kamina Elizabeth Johnson Smith, who welcomed the team and expressed appreciation for Ghana’s support during this difficult time. She mentioned that Ghana stands in solidarity with the people of Jamaica as recovery efforts continue.The reconstruction team is yet to commence operations in order to support affected communities. Their deployment reflects Ghana’s commitment to international cooperation and humanitarian assistance in times of disaster.
