The Ghanaian Battalion 92 (GHANBATT 92) serving with the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) proudly participated in the UNIFIL Food and Cultural Festival 2025 held at UNIFIL Headquarters, celebrating the theme “Flavors Without Borders.” The event brought together contingents in the mission area to share their rich cultural traditions through food, music and performance.
Hosted by the UNIFIL Welfare and Recreation Committee, the festival welcomed over 600 attendees, including UN personnel and local guests. GHANBATT’s vibrant display featured traditional Ghanaian cuisine, cultural artifacts, and captivating performances that highlighted the nation’s heritage and spirit of unity.
The Force Commander for UNIFIL, General Diodato Abagnara, who served as the Chief Guest, underscored the profound sense of family under the UN flag. He expressed his strong belief in the collective effort of all personnel, stating that their unified work was essential for stability in Lebanon.
Major Kingsley Owusu Agyemang, Deputy Commanding Officer of GHANBATT 92, emphasised the importance of the occasion noting, "For us, this festival is more than an event — it’s a reminder that peacekeeping is not just about patrols and protection. It’s also about understanding each other, respecting differences, and celebrating what makes each culture unique."
GHANBATT’s cultural stall offered guests a taste of Ghana with dishes such as jollof rice, waakye, among others prepared by the battalion’s culinary team. Visitors also enjoyed a live dance performance showcasing traditional Ghanaian rhythms, accompanied by drumming.
GHANBATT’s participation reflected its commitment to promoting cultural understanding and camaraderie among peacekeepers.
As the festival concluded, GHANBATT reaffirmed its dedication to fostering unity through diversity, echoing the UNIFIL mission’s values of respect, cooperation, and peace.
