In a spectacular display of skill, determination, and camaraderie, the volleyball team of the Ghanaian Battalion (GHANBATT) serving with the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) emerged victorious at the three-day volleyball tournament organized by the Sector West Joint Task Force.
The event, which ended on Saturday 27 September 2025, brought together eleven teams from the Sector in a spirited competition that underscored the strength and unity of the multinational peacekeeping force.
Team Ghana’s journey to the championship was marked by resolute performances, including crucial victories over the Italian Battalion in the quarterfinals and the Malaysian Battalion in the semi-finals.
The climactic final against Team Poland was a thrilling contest of endurance and skill, with Ghana clinching the title in a hard-fought three-set to one victory.
Throughout the competition, teams demonstrated exceptional athleticism and strategic prowess, reflecting the high standards and professionalism upheld by UNIFIL personnel. Brigadier General David Collusi, Sector West Commander, hailed the tournament as a resounding success.
“This event powerfully demonstrated the spirit of sportsmanship and trust that binds our personnel together,” he remarked. “It reflects the core UNIFIL values of teamwork, respect, and peaceful coexistence—principles that guide our mission here every day.”
On Monday 29 September 2025, the team proudly presented the championship trophy to the Commanding Officer of the Ghana Battalion, Lt Col Evans Yaw Mensah Komedjah who warmly congratulated the players. He praised their outstanding performance and dedication, emphasizing how their success had raised the flag of Ghana high on the international stage.
