GOC Northern Command Commissions Blood Bank and Renovated Wards at the 6MRS

The outgoing General Officer Commanding (GOC) Northern Command Brigadier General Frank Nartey Tei on Thursday 29 May 2025 commissioned a newly established Blood Bank, refurbished Emergency, Paediatric and Female Wards at the 6 Medical Reception Station (6MRS) in Kamina Barracks, Tamale.

The GOC in his keynote address described the refurbished Paediatric Ward and the new Blood Bank as “a beacon of hope, a symbol of compassion and a legacy of partnership.” He emphasized that the facilities extend beyond infrastructure and they represent a collective commitment to building a healthier and more resilient society.

 

He stated that, “meaningful progress is built on collective action” hence the need for collaborations between Headquarters Northern Command, the Bank of Ghana and other development partners.

 

He called on all stakeholders to ensure the continued functionality of the facility through routine maintenance, adequate resourcing and continuous support. The GOC commended the staff of the 6MRS for their professionalism and dedication. He charged them to steward the facilities with excellence. The Regional Director of the Bank of Ghana in Tamale, Mr Abdul-Aziz Mohammed, expressed pride in his outfit’s association with the projects. He noted that the establishment of the blood bank would not only serve personnel of the Ghana Armed Forces but also benefit the wider Tamale community. Mr Mohammed further described the relationship between Bank of Ghana and the Military as mutually beneficial, and assured of Bank of Ghana’s continuous support to the 6MRS and the Ghana Armed Forces.
