General Officer Commanding (GOC) Southern Command, Brig Gen Isaac Nicholas Paintsil, has commenced operational visits to all units and Forward Operating Bases (FOB) in Southern Command's Areas of Operational Responsibility (AOR) on Wednesday, 21 May 2025.
The aim of the visit was to give the GOC, who assumed command on 8 May 2025, the opportunity to familiarise himself with the units under his command, meet and interact with troops, as well as gain first-hand information on the various operational activities conducted by the units in support of national development.
It was also for the GOC to acquaint himself with the various forward positions and unit deployments in the AOR to help make tactical and operational decisions for the efficiency of the Ghana army.
The first leg of the visit saw the GOC visit 1 Infantry Battalion (1BN) at Michel camp, where he was received by the Commanding Officer of the unit, Lt Col Frank Adams, Staff Officers and personnel of the unit. He inspected a guard of honour mounted for him, after which he was given a thorough brief of the operational, logistics and administrative state of the battalion. He was also conducted around some key infrastructure and self-help development projects in the unit.
Brig Gen IN Paintsil, as part of the tour, visited some key national assets in the Battalion’s AOR, including the Ghana Grid Company (GRIDCO) and the Tema Development Corporation (TDC), both in Tema, to foster mutual cooperation in support of national development. He also paid a courtesy call on the Tema Divisional Police Commander, DCOP Barnabas Nambont Nasumong, to establish a rapport between the heads of security services in the AOR.
