The General Officer Commanding (GOC) Southern Command of the Ghana Army, Brigadier General (Brig Gen) Isaac Nicholas Paintsil has paid a two-day maiden visit to the Great 2 Infantry Battalion (2Bn) at Myohaung Barracks Apremdo-Takoradi from Wednesday 28 to Thursday 29 May 2025.
The visit formed part of the GOC's familiarisation tour of Units and Military installations under the purview of Southern Command after assumption of Command. It accorded him the opportunity to obtain first hand information on the operational activities of the 2 Infantry Battalion as well as its Areas of Operational Responsibility (AOR).
On arrival, Brig Gen Isaac Nicholas Paintsil inspected a Guard of Honour after which he received formal briefing at the Akwa Complex. Lieutenant Colonel Philip Tetteh Nartey, Commanding Officer of 2Bn apprised the GOC on the Unit’s administrative, operational and logistics state. After the operational brief, he was conducted round some designated projects such as Myohaung Annex, 2 Medical Reception Station, ongoing project at the Battalion Headquarters and some parts of the Barracks.
Brig Gen Paintsil later on had a durbar with Unit Officers, Soldiers and Defence Civilian Staff at the Methodist-Presbyterian Church. Speaking at the durbar, the GOC underscored the importance of good health to the efficiency of soldiers in carrying out their daily duties. He advised all personnel to have regular check-ups and report sick at the 2 Medical Reception Station when the need arises because they had the best medical professionals to attend to their medical needs.
Brig Gen IN Paintsil cautioned personnel against unauthorised and unethical activities and social vices such as military recruitment fraud, impersonation, land guard activities, betting, substance abuse, among others. He urged personnel to adhere to the tenets of social media guidelines provided by the Ghana Armed Forces.
GOC admonished troops to continue to be disciplined, loyal, professional and also be vigilant at all times so as to observe and gather relevant intelligence on violent extremism and terrorism which had become rampant in the sub-region. Brig Gen Paintsil commended the Unit and called for relentless support for the Commanding Officer, Lt Col Nartey whilst urging troops to continue to consolidate the Unit’s excellent reputation.
As a token of appreciation, the Commanding Officer of 2Bn, Lt Col Nartey presented a symbolic work of art to the GOC as reminiscence of his maiden visit to the Unit.
Brig Gen IN Paintsil and his entourage paid brief courtesy calls on the Western Regional Minister, Honourable Joseph Nelson and the Flag Officer Commanding Western Naval Command (FOC WNC). He thereafter visited Bogoso Mines before departing for Accra.
