HQ Southern Command Camp Wins Exercise ‘Kullum Shirri 2025’

Headquarters Southern Command Camp has been adjudged winners of the 2025 edition of the annual Southern Command Inter-Units March and Shoot competition code named ‘Exercise KULLUM SHIRRI’, held from 25 to 26 September 2025.The team obtained 225.7 points out of a highest possible score of 300 points and defied stiff opposition from 5 Infantry Battalion, 2 Infantry Battalion and 1 Infantry Battalion, who placed 2nd,3rd, and 4th respectively, to win the contest. The aim of the exercise was to test individual physical fitness and endurance of troops under command, test participants navigation and map reading abilities, test and practise marksmanship skills of troops as well as engender competitive spirit, unit pride and esprit de corps among Southern Command units.It was also to afford Headquarters Southern Command the opportunity to select a formidable team for the impending ‘Exercise TIGER’S PATH’, a biennial jungle warfare competitive exercise conducted among arms of service and commands of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF). The Principal General Staff Officer (PGSO) at the Ministry of Defence, Brig Gen Ben Gah who was the Guest of Honour for the event reiterated the vision of the Chief of the Army Staff (COAS), “To maintain a motivated army grounded on core military values, enabled by adaptive technologies and platforms capable of projecting decisive land power as part of the Ghana Armed Forces”, which can only be harnessed through training programs such as Ex KULLUM SHIRRI.He noted that the objectives of the competition, which include testing the endurance and mental toughness of troops and their application of marksmanship principles on personal weapons resonates with the high level of professionalism among personnel of the Ghana army. Gen Ben Gah commended all teams that participated in the competition, with special commendations going to the winning team for the tact and finesse with which they successfully executed the tasks and demands of the exercise. For his part, the Commanding Officer (CO) Headquarters Southern Command (Camp), Lt Col William Opoku praised the efforts and tenacity exhibited by his men, that has led to the convincing win by the team. He thanked the General Officer Commanding (GOC), Brig Gen Isaac Nicholas Paintsil for the enormous support in the preparations towards the exercise and pledged his commitment to a winning culture in the camp in support of the GOCs vision for the command.The exercise began at Michel Camp with a navigation exercise through Zenu School, to the University of Ghana farms and through school junction to the Ghana international mall. An obstacle crossing competition and a falling plate shooting competition at the TRADOC Obstacles course and the Teshie Gallery range respectively climaxed the two-day event.WOI Koli Emmanuel of Camp Southern Command and Cpl Baah-Acheamfour Charity of 5 Infantry Battalion were adjudged best male and female shots respectively.
