The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) Jungle Warfare School (JWS), in Partnership with the French Embassy, commenced training on Tuesday 20 January 2026, at the Seth Anthony Barracks in Akim Achiase, Eastern Region, in support of the fight against illegal mining.
Introducing the instructors, the French Defence Attaché (DA), Colonel Gregoire Madelin, underlined that the 3-week training would be conducted by a team of 15 French Instructors, three Officers and 35 military personnel from the GAF. The training focused on enabling participants to share experiences and ideas to improve collaboration in the fight against illegal mining.
The French DA, in his remarks, thanked the Chief of the Defence Staff, Lieutenant General William Agyapong, and the Military High Command for endorsing the execution of the training in the jungle environment.
In his opening address, the Commander of the Army Training Command, Brigadier General Joshua Amanor, who was also the Guest of Honour, thanked the French Armed Forces for their partnership, collaboration, and self-dedication in imparting experience and knowledge to GAF personnel to fight illegal mining and protect Ghana’s natural resources.
