LT COL NARTEY INDUCTED INTO OFFICE AS CO 2BN

Lieutenant Colonel Philip Tetteh Nartey has been officially inducted into office as Commanding Officer (CO), 2 Infantry Battalion on Sunday, 10 August 2025, at Calvary Methodist Presbyterian Church, Myohaung Barracks, Apremdo. The service, themed “Esprit De Corps Is A Force Multiplier,” was attended by personnel of 2 Garrison, sister security services, corporate representatives, and traditional leaders from Apremdo and surrounding areas. Director General Religious Affairs (DGRA) of the Ghana Armed Forces, Brigadier General Benjamin Godson Kumi-Woode, administered the oath of office. The Western Regional Minister, Honourable Joseph Nelson who was the special guest, lauded Lt Col Nartey’s long-standing ties with the Region and expressed confidence in his ability to enhance security through collaboration with the Regional Security Council. He stressed that the CO’s role required both professional competence and moral integrity, urging troops to rally behind him. The Guest of Honour, Western North Regional Minister, Honourable Wilbert Petty Brentum, noted that Esprit de Corps was a military principle and a unifying force that multiplied collective capability. He encouraged personnel to maintain discipline, loyalty, and support for the CO to ensure operational effectiveness. In his address, Lt Col Nartey pledged to unite personnel, uphold Ghana Armed Forces standards, and lead through teamwork, respect, and trust. He emphasised discipline and respect for authority as hallmarks of his tenure, thanking the Military High Command, his family, and loved ones for their support. The service began with a minute’s silence in memory of victims of the 9 August Z9 helicopter crash, which claimed eight lives, including three Ghana Air Force crew members. Present were 2 Garrison Commander Air Commodore Eric Yirenkyi, Flag Officer Commanding Western Naval Command, Commodore Samuel Ayelazono, MCEs of Sekondi-Takoradi and Mpohor, the Acting National Security Coordinator for Western Region, members of the Western Regional Security Council, senior officers from the military and sister security services, traditional leaders, and corporate representatives.
