Lt Col Osae Hands Over Command of 2BN to Lt Col Nartey

Lieutenant Colonel Edmund Nana Nyarko Osae has handed over command of the 2 Infantry Battalion of the Ghana Army to  Lieutenant Colonel Phillip Tetteh Nartey on Thursday 15 May 2025 at a handing and taking over ceremony held at Myohaung Barracks, Apremdo.

 

The ceremony commenced with the signing of the handing and taking over certificates between the out-gone Commanding Officer and the new Commanding Officer. This was immediately followed by the handing over of the Command Baton to the new Commanding Officer to signify the smooth transfer of authority and operational leadership of the Great 2 Infantry Battalion. This important engagement which took place inside the Akwa Complex was witnessed by the 2 Garrison Commander who doubles as the Commander,  Air Force Base Takoradi (AFB TAK), Air Commodore Eric Yirenkyi, other high ranking military Officers as well as Members of the Western Regional Security Council.

 

The ceremony was crowned by the handing over of the Unit Colour, which represents the spirit and soul of the Unit,  from Lt Col ENN Osae to Lt Col Nartey.

In his remarks, the 2 Garrison Commander, Air Commodore Eric Yirenkyi noted that leaders were appointed by a supreme being and therefore it was imperative for appointees to serve rather than laud it over their subordinates.

 

He commended the out-gone Commanding Officer of 2BN, Lt Col Osae for the excellent works done in the Unit and for his collaborations with sister security services to maintain peace and order in the Western Region and the Unit’s areas of operation.

 

Air Commodore Yirenkyi congratulated Lt Col Nartey on his appointment. He added that knowing his capabilities, he was mandated to diligently lead personnel of the unit to achieve their mission and objectives. He commended the Military High Command for appointing Lt Col Nartey to his new role and wished both out-gone and new Commanding Officers well in their military careers.

 

Many gifts were presented to Lt Col Osae by the Unit, Officers, Defence Civilian Staff, various associations, traditional leaders, corporate organisations and loved ones.

 

On the eve of the ceremony, the outgone Commanding Officer, Lt Col ENN Osae commissioned the Commanding Officer's Garden of Virtues, located just behind the Commanding Officer's office. During the commissioning, he used the occasion to promote the Unit's mascot, Sergeant Charles II to Staff Sergeant Charles II.

 

Present at the occasion were Flag Officer Commanding Naval Logistics Command, Commodore Eric Osei, Commander Tactical Air Command BUI (TACACB), Air Commodore Kwabena Kissiedu Manukure Atiemo, Metropolitan Chief Executive of Effia-Kwesimintsim, Hon Majeed Dokurugu, Members of the Western Regional Security Council, Senior Officers, Officers, Defence Civilian Staff, Nananom and well wishers.
