A delegation from the Armed Forces Command and Staff College (AFCSC), Jaji - Nigeria, comprising Directing Staff and students of Senior Course 47 undertook a strategic study tour to the Army Headquarters on Monday, 24 November 2025. The delegation was led by Chief Instructor Alpha Division, Colonel Mohammed Muniru Sanni.
The visit formed a key component of the AFCSC Masters curriculum, specifically within the regional security studies module that examines West Africa, North Africa, and other African subregions.
This year’s study theme—“Countering Terrorism and Cross-Border Security Threats through Community-Led National Security Initiatives”—is designed to deepen participants’ understanding of contemporary security dynamics and regional cooperation frameworks.
Welcoming the delegation on behalf of the Chief of Army Staff, Major General Lawrence Kwaku Gbetanu, the Chief Staff Officer, Brigadier General Lloyd Atror, underscored the growing urgency for enhanced regional collaboration in tackling terrorism.
He highlighted rising extremist activities in the Sahel and the increasing likelihood of their southward expansion, stressing that national security is intrinsically tied to regional peace. Brig Gen Atror called for stronger partnerships among African nations to confront shared security challenges.
As part of the tour, the Chief of G2 Training, Colonel Louis Boakye, delivered an insightful presentation titled “Countering Terrorism and Cross-Border Security Threats: Efforts and Challenges of the Ghana Army.” His briefing outlined Ghana’s strategic initiatives, including military restructuring, community engagement programmes, inter-agency collaboration, and international partnerships.
He also identified key challenges such as porous borders, limited surveillance capabilities, and the proliferation of small arms, while recommending improved border security systems, technological upgrades, and socio-economic empowerment of border communities.
In his response, Colonel Mohammed Muniru Sanni conveyed the appreciation of the AFCSC Commandant, commending the depth and relevance of the presentation and acknowledging the longstanding defence cooperation between Nigeria and Ghana. He expressed gratitude to the Army Headquarters leadership for the warm reception and affirmed that the insights gained would support the development of practical recommendations for Nigeria’s security architecture.
To commemorate the visit, Colonel Sanni presented a ceremonial plaque to the Army Headquarters, symbolizing the enduring partnership and shared commitment to regional peace and security between both military institutions.
