UNIFIL GH 92 Completes Training Ahead of Deployment

The United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) Ghana Battalion 92 (GHANBATT 92) has concluded a demanding seven-week pre-deployment training in preparation for its upcoming peacekeeping mission. A closing ceremony was held on Friday, 22 August 2025, at the Army Peace Operations Training School (APOTS) in Bundase. The event was presided over by the Commander, Army Training Command (CATRAC), Brigadier General (Brig Gen) Joshua Amanor.In his address, Brig Gen Amanor emphasized the critical importance of the training, highlighting the competitive standards of international peacekeeping. He praised APOTS as a vital national asset, highlighting its impressive track record of training numerous personnel in the past four years with a commendable 12% participation rate from female personnel, meeting United Nations standards.The CATRAC urged the Battalion to uphold the highest levels of professionalism and teamwork, stating that their performance is vital not only to the mission's success but also to maintaining Ghana's esteemed reputation in global peacekeeping.Serving as the Guest of Honour, for the Ghanbatt’s end of training get-together, the Commander, Army Special Operations Brigade (ASOB), Brig Gen Richard Mensah, commended the troops for successfully fulfilling all requirements for deployment to a challenging operational environment.Brig Gen Mensah extended his congratulations, invoking the words of General George Patton to illustrate the noble obligation of soldiers serving their country. He commended the officers and soldiers of GHANBATT 92 for their demonstrated commitment, sacrifice, and professionalism throughout the arduous training period.He also acknowledged significant infrastructure improvements made to the school during the training period, including the renovation of an accommodation block, thanking benefactor Mr Twum Barima for his support.The Commanding Officer, UNIFIL GHANBATT 92, Lieutenant Colonel Evans Yaw Kumedjah, confirmed his Battalion is fully prepared for its mandate, expressing immense confidence in his motivated troops.The get-together concluded with a series of team competitions designed to showcase military readiness. In a timed event, soldiers demonstrated their speed in stripping and reassembling their personal weapons, as well as donning their uniforms.Charlie Company placed first in the weaponry event, with Alpha Company coming in second. Charlie Company also won the uniform competition, which ended in a tie for second place among the remaining companies.
