The Ghanaian Battalion (GHANBATT 92) of UNIFIL has successfully completed a two-day Evaluation of Subordinate Military Entities (ESME), conducted by the Sector West Evaluation Team on 2–3 February 2026. The assessment aimed to measure operational readiness, validate routine procedures, and ensure alignment with UN standards across all infantry units.
The evaluation, held at GHANBATT headquarters at UNP 5‑66, focused on simulated and routine mission-critical tasks. The practical simulations tested GHANBATT soldiers’ rapid-response actions, tactical movement, emergency treatment, and logistical coordination. The exercises enabled evaluators to assess the battalion’s preparedness, coordination, and adherence to operational protocols.
The team, led by Lieutenant Colonel Aidan Ryan (Chief G5/7) of the Irish Defence Forces, also assessed the battalion’s staff functions through question sessions and direct observation.
The demonstrations showcased GHANBATT’s professionalism and commitment to mission excellence. The evaluation concluded with a feedback briefing, during which initial observations, lessons learned, and commendations were shared.
Insights gathered are expected to strengthen GHANBATT’s operational posture and contribute to the continuous improvement of UNIFIL’s overall mission effectiveness.
GHANBATT remains committed to meeting UN operational standards and delivering professional service in support of UNIFIL’s mandate.
