A transfer of authority parade has been held between the Commanding Officer (CO) of UNIFIL GHANBATT 91, Lieutenant Colonel (Lt Col) Isaac Kobe Boako and Commanding Officer of UNIFIL GHANBATT 92, Lt Col Evans Yaw Mensah Kumedjah on Sunday, 14 September 2025 at the Seth Obeng Camp, Al Qawzah (UNP 5-66), Lebanon.
During the parade, Lt Col Boako of the outgoing GHANBATT 91 officially handed over operational command of Ghanbatt’s Area of Responsibility in Southern Lebanon to Lt Col Evans Yaw Mensah Kumedjah of GHANBATT 92.
In his address, the outgoing CO expressed strong confidence in the abilities of the new Battalion. He further expressed his trust in them to uphold the core values of the Ghana Armed Forces and to excel in their peacekeeping mission.
Lt Col Boako reflected on the significant challenges his unit faced during its tour. He cited the impact of escalated cross-border exchanges and a major Israeli Defence Force ground invasion, known as Operation NORTHERN ARROW, on the Battalion’s operations.
On operational achievements, Lt Col Boako highlighted the construction of a new ultramodern Tactical Operations Centre. This facility was designed to provide enhanced security for the operations team and to improve overall battalion effectiveness.
The outgoing Commanding Officer offered advice to the incoming troops, urging constant vigilance during movements and accurate reporting of incidents. He also warned them to be cautious of unexploded ordnance remaining from recent intense fighting under operation “NORTHERN ARROW”.
Brigadier General Colussi, the Sector West Commander, commended the departing GHANBATT 91 for displaying high moral values and exceptional teamwork. He emphasized that their presence significantly contributed to the collective efforts of all nations serving in the sector and congratulated the incoming battalion.
The ceremony was attended by numerous dignitaries, including former Ghana’s Honorary Consul in Lebanon, His excellency Michel Haddad, Ghana's Defence Attache to Egypt, Air Commodore Reginald Yaw Cole, the Deputy Sector West Commander, Colonel Shane Bradley, the representative of the Lebanese Armed Forces (LAF) 5 Bde Command, various Battalion Commanders, staff officers, local mayors, and members of the Ghanaian community in Lebanon.
