UNIFIL GHANBATT 92 Welcomes New Contico, Bids Farewell to Col Mfum

The Ghanaian Battalion (GHANBATT 92) serving with the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) marked a significant leadership transition on Saturday, 22 November 2025, as Colonel (Col) Michael Kwame Afreh Mfum, outgoing Contingent Commander (CONTICO) and Chief of the Joint Operations Centre at UNIFIL Headquarters, visited the Battalion headquarters at Al-Qawzah to bid farewell and introduce his successor.During the visit, Col Mfum officially announced the end of his tour of duty and presented Col Atsu Agbenyegah as the new Contingent Commander. He commended the troops for their professionalism, discipline, and unwavering commitment, noting that their conduct had ensured a smooth and incident-free deployment.The outgoing commander urged personnel to maintain their high standards, remain diligent, and uphold a positive attitude. He also reiterated his advice on financial prudence, encouraging both departing and remaining troops to manage their earnings wisely. Introducing his successor, Col Mfum described Col Agbenyegah as a capable and trustworthy leader, calling on all personnel to extend the same support and cooperation that had characterized his own tenure.The event underscored continuity and commitment within the Ghanaian contingent, reinforcing its role in sustaining peace and stability in the mission area.
